This scheme aims to support large Danish fish-processing companies in implementing projects that reduce CO2 emissions
The European Commission has approved a €155 million (DKK 1.1 billion) Danish scheme designed to promote green investments in the processing of fishery and aquaculture products, by EU State aid rules.
This scheme aims to support large Danish fish-processing companies in implementing projects that reduce CO2 emissions and save energy by transitioning to eco-friendly energy sources. The initiative will run until December 31, 2029, and the aid will be provided in the form of direct grants.
The Commission evaluated the scheme based on EU State aid rules, particularly Article 107(3)(c) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, which permits Member States to support the development of certain economic activities under specific conditions, as well as the Guidelines for State aid in the fishery and aquaculture sector.
The Commission concluded that the scheme is both necessary and appropriate for encouraging relevant investments in the fishery and aquaculture processing sector. Additionally, it determined that the scheme is proportionate, as it is limited to the minimum amount necessary and will have a minimal impact on competition and trade between Member States. Based on these findings, the Commission approved the Danish scheme under EU State aid rules.
