Vietnam’s seafood exports hit $10Bn

Shrimp and pangasius contributed 60 per cent of the total revenue, with shrimp exports rising 16.7 per cent to $4 billion and pangasius growing 8.9 per cent to $2 billion compared to 2023

Vietnam’s Seafood exports hit $10 billion in 2024, bolstered by shrimp and pangasius, despite challenges in markets, logistics, and raw materials, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) announced.

Shrimp and pangasius contributed 60 per cent of the total revenue, with shrimp exports rising 16.7 per cent to $4 billion and pangasius growing 8.9 per cent to $2 billion compared to 2023. Tuna exports, despite raw material shortages, reached $1 billion, marking an 18 per cent year-on-year increase. Other fish accounted for $1.9 billion, while squid and octopus generated $662 million.

VASEP Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thu Sac emphasised the sector’s goal of maintaining $10 billion in export revenue in 2024, supported by stabilising inflation in major markets and a gradual global economic recovery.

Despite these difficulties, Vietnam’s aquatic industry demonstrated resilience and adaptability. As the world’s third-largest seafood exporter, following China and Norway, the country is steadily advancing toward sustainability in the sector.

This success provides a strong foundation for the seafood industry to achieve even greater growth in 2025 and beyond.
