The latest funding marks a significant turning point for the Maastricht-based company, enabling it to achieve a 99.999 per cent reduction in production costs
Cultivated meat company Mosa Meat has announced the successful completion of a €15 million funding round, bringing its total capital raised over the past two years to €58 million, as the company reaches a critical cost-parity milestone that moves cultivated beef closer to commercial reality.
The latest funding marks a significant turning point for the Maastricht-based company, enabling it to achieve a 99.999 per cent reduction in production costs compared to the world’s first cultivated beef burger unveiled in 2013, which carried a price tag of €250,000.
According to the company, advances in fundamental science and large-scale production efficiencies have now brought cultivated beef burgers to a price point suitable for restaurant menus, eliminating the premium once associated with lab-grown meat.
“Today, we are producing burgers at a price point ready for restaurant menus,” said Mosa Meat CEO Maarten Bosch. “With the backing of our world-class investors, we have successfully turned a science project into a tasty and affordable product without compromising on our original vision.”
The funding round includes continued support from Dutch state-backed impact investors Invest-NL, supported by a guarantee from InvestEU, as well as LIOF, alongside strategic partners PHW Group and Jitse Groen, founder and CEO of Eat Takeaway.com.
Victor Meijer, investment principal at Invest-NL, said that while investing in emerging sectors requires long-term commitment, Mosa Meat has established a strong foundation and is taking clear steps toward commercialisation.
Beyond funding, the company continues to advance regulatory approvals across multiple markets. Mosa Meat currently has regulatory dossiers under review in the United Kingdom, European Union, Switzerland and Singapore. The company was also recently selected to participate in the UK government’s regulatory “Sandbox” programme, supported by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, aimed at accelerating innovation in novel food technologies.
Closer to home, Mosa Meat has gained recognition through its collaboration with the Cellular Agriculture Netherlands (CAN) foundation, having been identified as a participating partner in a strategic climate technology initiative outlined in the Dutch government’s influential ‘Wennink Report’. The designation positions the company to benefit from national mechanisms designed to accelerate the Netherlands’ transition toward sustainable economic growth.
