Duncan Makeig elected new Foodbank Australia chair

Makeig brings a wealth of experience in legal and corporate governance from his 30-year management career working across various senior leadership positions in Australia and the United States

Duncan Makeig, the former Managing Director of Lion Asia Dairy, has been elected unopposed as the Chair of the Board for Foodbank Australia. He succeeds Tony Froggatt, the outgoing Independent Chair, who served for nine years.

Having joined the Foodbank Australia Board at the beginning of 2023, Makeig brings extensive experience in legal and corporate governance, gained over a 30-year management career. He has held various senior leadership positions in both Australia and the United States at companies such as Heineken-Lion, PepsiCo, China Road, and Tricon Restaurants (Yum! Brands). Additionally, he has agricultural expertise from his role as Director of Wirrabilla Pastoral.

Makeig has a deep understanding of the not-for-profit sector, having previously chaired the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation and Curing Homesickness Ltd. He also currently serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director on the Endeavour Board.

Tony Froggatt leaves his position after successfully building awareness and trust in Foodbank Australia while fostering closer collaboration within the food relief sector. His leadership has enabled the sector to advocate for policies prioritising the needs of millions of Australians experiencing hunger, notably through the ongoing push for a National Food Donation Tax Incentive.
