SFA cancels license of Sakura Buffet due to concerns about food safety

SFA conducted inspections at the licensed premises of Sakura Buffet Pte Ltd at Geylang Bahru from March to May 2024 and uncovered several food safety lapses

Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has cancelled the license of Sakura Buffet Pte Ltd due to concerns about food safety in its operations. From late March 2024, SFA received several feedback on food safety concerns of home-delivery catered meals, which were provided by five web-based businesses. Some of these concerns included undercooked and mouldy food or the presence of foreign matter in food such as hair and insects. Upon investigation, SFA found that the food provided by these web-based businesses were all supplied by Sakura Buffet Pte Ltd, which was licensed by SFA to provide catering services. During our investigations, SFA also found 7 other web-based businesses linked to Sakura Buffet Pte Ltd.

SFA conducted inspections at the licensed premises of Sakura Buffet Pte Ltd at Geylang Bahru from March to May 2024 and uncovered several food safety lapses. These include failure to keep its premises clean and falsely labelling the time-stamping of packed food. The Food Safety Management System (FSMS) required of catering businesses was also poorly implemented at the premises. 5 SFA had taken enforcement action against Sakura Buffet Pte Ltd on four separate occasions (from Nov 2023 to Apr 2024) for various food safety and hygiene lapses. Despite this, the company was recalcitrant and failed to improve. To protect consumers against any further food safety violations, SFA has cancelled the license issued to Sakura Buffet Pte Ltd. Sakura Buffet Pte Ltd is not allowed to operate at their licensed premises at Geylang Bahru. Further investigations into the cases reported to SFA are ongoing.
