All illegally imported produce was confiscated, and further investigations by SFA are underway
The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) and Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) have jointly seized approximately 1.6 tonnes of fresh vegetables and processed food that were illegally imported from Malaysia. This operation specifically targeted vegetable delivery trucks entering Singapore via the Woodlands Checkpoint, which typically transports produce directly to retailers and customers.
During the operation, ICA officers referred two trucks to SFA for further checks because they discovered discrepancies in the transported goods. Upon inspection, SFA found about 1.6 tonnes of undeclared and under-declared produce such as spinach, bitter gourd, tomato, turnip, and peeled onion that was brought in by two importers in the two trucks.
All illegally imported produce was confiscated, and further investigations by SFA are underway. The agencies stated that in Singapore, only licensed importers can import fruit and vegetables, and every consignment must be declared and accompanied by a valid import permit.
