SFA recalls cinnamon powders from China, India and water from Japan

The SFA cautions that prolonged consumption of high levels of lead can cause problems for the kidneys and liver

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has issued a recall for two cinnamon powder products that contain harmful levels of lead. The Koi Fish Brand Cinnamon powder from China and Gabrielle T Organic Cinnamon powder from India are being recalled by the importers. Additionally, Hadapirika Mineral Water, bottled in Japan, is also being recalled for containing unsafe levels of the chemical bromate.

While a one-off consumption of the affected products is unlikely to pose any immediate food safety concern, the SFA cautions that prolonged consumption of high levels of lead can cause problems for the kidney and liver, as well as the cardiovascular, haematological, immune, reproductive and nervous systems. Similarly, prolonged consumption of excessive bromate is associated with an increased risk of cancer.

Consumers who have purchased the implicated products are advised not to consume them. Those who have consumed the implicated products and have concerns about their health should seek medical advice. Consumers may contact their point of purchase for inquiries.
