SFA discovered undeclared and under-declared produce, including chilli padi, spring onion, brinjal, and peeled garlic
Earlier this week, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) seized around 1.5 tonnes of fresh produce and processed food that was illegally imported from Malaysia. In joint operation Immigration and Checkpoints Authority and SFA discovered approximately 1.5 tonnes of undeclared and under-declared produce, including chilli padi, spring onion, brinjal, and peeled garlic in two lorries brought in by three importers. SFA seized all the illegally imported produce.
The joint operation was conducted from March 25 to 26 and took place at Woodlands Checkpoint, where the trucks were transporting produce for direct distribution to retailers and customers entering Singapore.
Imported food in Singapore must meet SFA’s requirements. Only licensed importers can import fruits and vegetables, and every consignment must be declared and accompanied by a valid import permit. Offenders who illegally import fresh fruits and vegetables may face a maximum fine of S$10,000 and/or imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years upon conviction.
