Tyson also plans to bolster its supply chain, including expansions at the hatchery, feed mill and transportation systems required to support the additional capacity.

Tyson Foods, plans to invest $84 million in a 25,000-square-foot expansion at its poultry plant in Union City, Tenn. The project is expected to begin this fall and be completed by the middle of 2019.

Plans for the plant, which manufactures partially fried chicken products for food service customers, include increasing the current harvesting area and adding processing lines. The construction project will create approximately 300 jobs.

Expanding capacity at the facility will require the addition of approximately 200 more broiler chicken houses in the area to support the added production, the company said. Tyson also plans to bolster its supply chain, including expansions at the hatchery, feed mill and transportation systems required to support the additional capacity.

“Customer and consumer demand for protein, especially chicken, is increasing, so we’re investing in projects that build on our strengths, expand our capabilities and increase our capacity,” said Doug Ramsey, group president of poultry at Tyson Foods. “Expansions like this position us to grow and support our customers.”
