Nutifood has announced that its proprietary FDI Formula for digestive and immune support has been granted a patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), marking a significant achievement for Vietnam’s dairy and nutrition industry in the global intellectual property landscape.

The announcement was made during the anniversary celebration of Nutifood GrowPLUS+, a dairy brand developed using the FDI Formula. The event was attended by representatives from Vietnam’s science, technology, food safety, and foreign affairs departments, along with international partners including the U.S. Consul General and the California Milk Advisory Board.

Developed since 2020 by the Nutifood Nutrition Research Institute in Sweden (NNRIS), the Foundation of Digestion & Immunity (FDI) Formula combines European nutritional science with research into the specific dietary needs of Vietnamese children. The formula focuses on strengthening digestion and immunity simultaneously to improve nutrient absorption and support early childhood development.

The formulation combines 2’-FL HMO, a breast milk oligosaccharide linked to immune development, with FOS and Inulin, plant-based soluble fibres that help balance beneficial gut bacteria. According to Nutifood, a 2021 clinical study conducted by Vietnam’s National Institute of Nutrition found that the FDI Formula helped improve digestive issues such as constipation, diarrhoea, and poor appetite, while also supporting reduced risk of respiratory infections in young children.

The USPTO recognised the formula for its proprietary ratio of 2’-FL HMO and FOS, as well as its clinically evaluated dual benefits for digestive and immune health. Nutifood stated that the patent reinforces its long-term commitment to evidence-based nutritional science and internationally standardised nutrition solutions for Vietnamese children.
