The 47,000 m2 state-of-the-art National Distribution Centre in Truganina will process more than 450 million products annually
Mondelēz International, the global company behind Cadbury, opened a new $130 million national distribution centre in Truganina, creating 200 new jobs in Melbourne’s west.
Twice the size of the MCG, the over 47,000 square metre purpose-built high-tech facility developed by ESR Australia & New Zealand is now the largest automated Mondelēz site in the world.
With 17 levels of automated storage, 11 robotic cranes and 500 metres of conveyor systems, the centre will handle 4 million Cadbury chocolate blocks every week, all made in Australia and distributed nationwide.
In addition to Cadbury products, the Truganina National Distribution Centre will process every Pascal, The Natural Confectionery Company and Olina’s Bakehouse product made in Australia.
With 90 per cent of the 200 new jobs filled by residents, the new centre will generate long-term economic benefits for the region through employment, training and supplier partnerships.
Mondelēz International Japan, Australia and New Zealand CEO Toby Smith said the $130 million investment in the new facility was a vote of confidence in the future of Australian manufacturing and Cadbury’s long-standing presence in Melbourne.
“We’re proud to make this investment in Australia, proud to create jobs in Melbourne’s west and proud that the biggest facility for Cadbury anywhere in the world is right here in Truganina,” he said.
“By consolidating our operations into one national hub, we’re reducing truck movements while at the same time increasing our capabilities and that means getting our products into the hands of consumers faster and more efficiently.”
The Truganina site is powered entirely by renewable energy, with solar panels, rainwater harvesting and modern recycling systems. It has achieved a 5-star Green Star rating by the Green Building Council of Australia for its sustainability credentials. It is estimated that over 2,700 trucks will be taken off the road annually, and approximately 190,000 kilometres of travel will be saved through the new site.
