China initiates anti-dumping investigation into EU pork

The investigation is anticipated to conclude before June 17, 2025, with the possibility of a six-month extension under special circumstances

China has initiated an anti-dumping investigation into specific pork and pig by-products imported from the European Union (EU), according to the Ministry of Commerce. The investigation is in response to an application filed by the China Animal Agriculture Association on behalf of the domestic industry, meeting all the necessary conditions for initiating an anti-dumping probe.

The probe will cover certain pork and pig by-products from the EU from Jan. 1, 2023, to Dec. 31, 2023, and assess any damage caused to Chinese industries from Jan. 1, 2020, to Dec. 31, 2023. The investigation is anticipated to conclude before June 17, 2025, with the possibility of a six-month extension under special circumstances.

This announcement follows the European Commission’s decision to impose additional provisional tariffs ranging from 17.4 per cent to 38.1 per cent on electric vehicles (EVs) from China, which sparked strong criticism from Chinese officials, industry, and business groups. Chinese officials have pledged to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies by taking necessary measures.
