Norwegian salmon farming company SalMar ASA has signed an agreement to acquire a 70 per cent stake in Måsøval AS from Heimstø AS for approximately NOK 3.4 billion, strengthening its position in one of the world’s leading aquaculture regions.
Under the agreement, SalMar will acquire 85,727,553 shares in Måsøval, representing around 70 per cent of the company’s share capital, at NOK 39.50 per share. The transaction values Måsøval at approximately NOK 4.84 billion, based on its outstanding share capital.
The consideration comprises 733,906 SalMar shares, accounting for 10 per cent of the purchase price, with the remaining amount to be paid in cash. The value of the share consideration was based on SalMar’s closing share price of NOK 461.40 on Euronext Oslo Børs on 6 July 2026.
SalMar said the acquisition will strengthen its platform for sustainable growth in Central Norway, a region recognised globally for salmon aquaculture. The company expects the transaction to enhance resource utilisation, operational expertise and infrastructure while supporting innovation and long-term value creation across the Norwegian seafood sector.
The acquisition also reflects the shared heritage of both companies on the island of Frøya, regarded as one of the birthplaces of modern Norwegian salmon farming.
“We believe this represents an exciting industrial opportunity that will strengthen SalMar’s position in Central Norway, one of our most important core regions for aquaculture,” said Frode Arntsen, Chief Executive Officer of SalMar.
“Måsøval is a historically well-established and well-managed company with strong roots in the region, and its operations are a good fit with SalMar’s existing activities. The companies share common roots on Frøya, and we see significant potential for further development,” he added.
SalMar expects the combination to improve operational synergies and facilitate further development of sustainable salmon farming while maintaining a long-term focus on responsible aquaculture production.
