International Milling and Baking Technical Conference propel sustainable growth in wheat-based industries

The conference brought together industry specialists, experts, and key individuals from India, Canada, and Australia to address critical issues and explore the future of wheat-based industries

The Wheat Products Promotion Society (WPPS), a 33-year-old non-profit organisation successfully concluded its groundbreaking International Milling and Baking Technical Conference in Guwahati, Assam. The conference brought together industry specialists, experts, and key individuals from India, Canada, and Australia to address critical issues and explore the future of wheat-based industries.

The conference began with the Inaugural Session, marked by great enthusiasm and excitement. Distinguished dignitaries delivered their addresses, emphasising the significance of the conference in advancing the wheat-based industries in the region.

Deepak More, General Secretary of the Assam Roller Flour Mills Association, extended a warm welcome to all attendees, highlighting the conference’s potential to foster innovation and collaboration within the industry. Ajay Goyal, Chairman of Wheat Products Promotion Society (WPPS), shared the vision and objectives of the conference, while Guest of Honour, Manvendra Pratap Singh, IAS, Managing Director of Assam Industrial Development Corporation, expressed the government’s support for the growth and development of the wheat-based industries in the region.

The Inaugural Session also featured the prestigious WPPS Award Presentations, honouring individuals for their significant contributions to the progress of wheat-based industries. Dr Sridevi Annapurna Singh, Director of CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysuru, delivered valuable insights into the advancements in food technology and the role of wheat-based products in meeting future food security challenges.

The second day of the conference commenced with the Keynote Session, where industry experts shared their insights and research findings on various aspects of wheat production, demand, supply, consumption, and future market opportunities.

The Round Table Sessions delved into crucial topics such as wheat processing for milled and baked products, nutrition, food security, and the role of wheat in the human diet and health. Esteemed panellists discussed ways to optimize wheat processing techniques, ensure high baking quality, and retain essential nutrients for nutritious and safe products.
