Ontario will be investing around C$11m ($8.8m) in Ferrero Canada’s C$90m ($72.1m) project through its Jobs and Prosperity Fund – Food and Beverage Growth Fund.

The Government of Ontario in Canada has recently agreed to support chocolate and confectionery products manufacturer Ferrero Canada’s plans to expand its facilities and diversify product offerings in the country.

Ontario will be investing around C$11m ($8.8m) in Ferrero Canada’s C$90m ($72.1m) project through its Jobs and Prosperity Fund – Food and Beverage Growth Fund.

The facility expansion will further enhance the production capacity and will also create 80 new employment opportunities in the Brantford region while retaining more than 1,000 positions across the province.

Ontario Minister of Economic Development and Growth Brad Duguid said, “The investment illustrates exactly why the Jobs and Prosperity Fund was created – to partner with ambitious companies that are innovating, boosting productivity and growing exports in Ontario’s key economic sectors.”

The expansion project will see the construction of a new cocoa bean processing plant, enhancement in Nutella and Go manufacturing capacity, implementation of new processes to manufacture a new range of Tic Tac products, and installation of a new wastewater treatment system.

Ferrero Canada manufactures four main product lines at its Brantford facility that include Nutella, Nutella and Go, Tic Tac, and Ferrero Rocher. The Jobs and Prosperity Fund is providing C$2.7bn ($2.16bn) over ten years and has invested about C$630m ($505.46m) in 30 projects since 2013.

As part of this fund, the Food and Beverage Growth Fund supports food, beverage and bioproduct manufacturing projects in the province.
