The MoU forms part of broader efforts to enhance Arab cooperation and support regional initiatives aimed at strengthening food systems and agricultural resilience
The Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development (AAAID) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ghitha, a portfolio company of Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company, the sovereign wealth fund of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The agreement establishes a framework for strategic cooperation across areas of shared interest, with a focus on food security and sustainable agricultural development.
According to the Emirates News Agency, the MoU forms part of broader efforts to enhance Arab cooperation and support regional initiatives aimed at strengthening food systems and agricultural resilience. It was signed at AAAID’s headquarters by Dr Obaid Saif Hamad Al Zaabi, Chairman of AAAID’s Board, and Basim Mohamed Al Saie, Chairman of Ghitha.
Under the agreement, the two organisations will collaborate on food security-related initiatives, including boosting food production, developing strategic reserves of essential commodities, improving distribution efficiency, and ensuring equitable and sustainable access to food in line with national and regional priorities.
The partnership also includes facilitating technical exchanges through mutual visits and field engagements, sharing expertise and knowledge, and developing best practices across the agriculture and food security sectors.
In addition, the MoU provides a platform to explore opportunities for developing, scaling and commercialising innovative products and services through the affiliated companies of both parties, leveraging Ghitha’s expanding portfolio and operational strengths.
Further areas of cooperation include identifying strategic opportunities to access regional and international markets, supported by the exchange of market intelligence, research insights and strategic analyses to inform planning and decision-making.
Commenting on the agreement, Dr Al Zaabi said the MoU marks a significant step toward strengthening effective Arab partnerships in agriculture and food security. He added that it reflects AAAID’s commitment to supporting sustainable investment initiatives that contribute to agricultural development and food security across Arab countries, in collaboration with leading national institutions such as Ghitha.
Ghitha brings together a portfolio of key national food-sector companies and plays a central role in supporting Bahrain’s food security objectives. Over the next five years, the company plans to pursue major expansions and strategic investments, including partnerships with private-sector food companies, to accelerate growth, enhance operational capabilities and expand its presence locally, regionally and internationally.
