Sagamiya Foods, leading tofu manufacturer in Japan, joins venture with a minority stake
Hodo, Inc. (Hodo), a leading producer of organic tofu and sustainable plant proteins, announced that Calbee, Inc. (Calbee), a global leader in snacks and food products, has acquired a majority stake in the company. The acquisition accelerates the growth of Calbee’s international and Food and Health businesses.
As part of this venture, Sagamiya Foods Co., Ltd. (Sagamiya), a leading tofu manufacturer in Japan, has also acquired a minority stake in Hodo. Sagamiya will contribute technical support, further strengthening the venture’s growth plans.
Headquartered in Oakland, California, Hodo has been at the forefront of tofu innovation, producing high-quality tofu and plant-powered proteins made with organic, non-GMO soybeans. Hodo’s foods are protein-rich, packed with nutrients, and gluten-free. Hodo’s commitment to exceptional taste and high-quality ingredients has earned the brand numerous accolades and widespread recognition among health-conscious consumers and Michelin-honoured chefs across the U.S. Hodo supplies retail grocery outlets nationwide as well as food service partners like Chipotle.
The acquisition aligns with Calbee’s strategic “Change 2025” transformation plan, focusing on expansion in the U.S. and strengthening its Food and Health business. “As demand for sustainable foods grows, tofu is increasingly valued by health-conscious consumers.
