Nestlé is also building a new high-throughput line for Nescafé sachets, which will allow the product to be packaged in recyclable mono-material
To continue promoting the production of products with recyclable packaging, Nestlé Spain has decided to invest around 15 million euros in its Nescafé instant coffee and Nescafé Dolce Gusto capsules factory located in the city of Girona.
Specifically, the factory has begun construction work on two new packaging lines that will allow the use of recyclable material, minimising the use of virgin plastics and working with more energy-efficient machines. These lines will also have the latest technology and a high level of automation. The work is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
With these new lines, the Nestlé factory in Girona will begin to produce the Nescafé refill bag in the country, which will be made from recyclable material. This product was launched on the market about two years ago and allows the consumer to continue to have the same recipe and quality of Nescafé in a container that helps to be more sustainable and whose content can also be used to refill the legendary jar of instant coffee.
Nestlé is also building a new high-throughput line for Nescafé sachets, which will allow the product to be packaged in recyclable monomaterial. This measure will reduce the use of virgin plastic by 60 tonnes per year. In addition, this new line will be able to produce 1,200 sachets per minute.
This line will therefore enable the continued production of Nescafé Classic Natural and Nescafé Classic Decaffeinated instant coffee sachets for both the catering and hospitality industry, as well as for the retail sector, which are already produced in the factory but now in recyclable packaging.
