The Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) has reported a 29.8 per cent increase in the value of Iran’s agricultural and food product exports for the first quarter of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20-June 20), compared to the same period last year. During this time, Iran exported 1,562,000 tonnes of agricultural commodities, valued at $684 million, marking a 28 per cent year-on-year increase in value.
Apples, in-shell pistachios, watermelons, field tomatoes, and greenhouse tomatoes were the leading exports in terms of value. Agro-food products constituted approximately 6.66 per cent of the total export weight and 8.53 per cent of the overall export value for Iran in this timeframe, according to Tehran Times.
Last year, there was a 22.5 per cent increase in the value of these exports, totalling about $6.3 billion. Agro-food products constituted 12.8 per cent of Iran’s total non-oil exports, with Iraq, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Russia being the top importers of these products from Iran.
