UAE’s first beer brewery set to open in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi updated its rules in 2021, allowing alcohol license holders to produce drinks on-site for consumption at licensed venues

A beer brewery is set to open in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates this month, becoming the first company to legally produce alcoholic beverages in the region.

Craft, a microbrewery and gastropub by Side Hustle Brews, is set to open this month at The Galleria Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi. The brand had previously sold its beers in the UAE and on Etihad Airlines flights, but its brewing operations were conducted in the US.

Abu Dhabi updated its rules in 2021, allowing alcohol license holders to produce drinks on-site for consumption at licensed venues.

The brewery will offer on-site craft cocktails and southern smokehouse and pub cuisine, featuring Side Hustle, the UAE’s first craft alcohol brand, brewing their hops and grains.

Chad McGehee, founder and CEO of Side Hustle Brews & Spirits, said that they are both humbled and thrilled to open Abu Dhabi’s first craft microbrewery, acknowledging their responsibility as founders of the local craft movement.
