Danone invests €100 M in China

Becomes biggest B Corp™ company in Asia

Danone has announced a 100 million euros investment in China to strengthen its local market capabilities and boost its Specialized Nutrition business unit.

The investment will be used for the opening of Danone Open Science Research Center for LifeTransforming Nutrition based in Shanghai, the acquisition of Murray Goulburn Dairy (Qingdao) Co Ltd from Saputo Dairy Australia and developing new offerings in FSMP (Food for Special Medical Purposes) which offers nutritional content that cannot be obtained from normal food items.

Danone has also announced that its Early Life Nutrition business unit in the country has achieved B Corp™ certification thereby becoming the biggest B Corp™ company in Asia.

Véronique Penchienati-Bosetta, Executive Vice President of Specialized Nutrition has said that opening of the Open Science Research Center, the acquisition of local manufacturing capabilities and the B Corp™ certification are key milestones for Danone’s growth in China.

She added that this investment will allow the company to work further in the areas of healthy and balanced diets with extensive scientific research and tailored to Chinese nutritional and health needs, habits and traditions.
