The International Dairy Federation (IDF) has appointed former Dairy Farmers of Canada executive director Caroline Emond as its new director general.

Emond served as the executive director of the Dairy Farmer of Canada for three years, and brings twenty-four years of experience from senior executive and public affairs roles in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors.

Emond has worked for Dairy Farmers of Canada from 1998 to 2006, first as Assistant Director, International Trade and then as Permanent Representative for the supply management organizations (SM5) at the World Trade Organization in Geneva. She worked in the private sector for five years and has also served as the Head of the Quebec General Delegation in Brussels.

Emond assumed her new role this month and she replaced Nico van Belzen, who had served in the role since 2012.

Emond is a lawyer and well established lobbyist with over 20 years of experience in Canadian, American and European political and legislative systems as well as international trade rules.
