The Australian Government has secured a new trade agreement enabling Australian blueberry producers to export their fruit to Vietnam, opening up a market expected to be worth $22 million over the next five years.

The agreement, effective this week, also provides Vietnamese pomelos for Australian consumers, marking a notable two-way trade milestone. Work on the agreement began in 2022 and reflects the strong bilateral relationship between Australia and Vietnam.

Australia’s blueberry industry, valued at around $500 million, is set to benefit significantly, with exports to Vietnam projected at $4 million in the first year, scaling to $22 million within five years.

The announcement forms part of the Albanese Government’s broader efforts to expand market access for Australian produce. In 2024-25, the government achieved 79 technical market access milestones, including 17 actions to maintain and 8 to restore existing markets, supporting trade worth $4 billion, alongside opening 10 new markets and improving access to 44 existing ones.

Julie Collins MP, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, said: “Australia’s hardworking, innovative blueberry producers should be proud of the fruit they grow, which is sought after all around the world. This agreement is a result of both the quality of our produce and the strength of our relationship with Vietnam.”

The government emphasised that such trade agreements will continue to drive growth in Australia’s agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector, projected to exceed $100 billion in 2025-26, while creating more opportunities for farmers to export high-quality Australian produce globally.
