Hitachi launches food quality visualisation solution

The solution simplifies the tracking of temperature-sensitive products without requiring power or retrieval, improving product value and reducing waste

Hitachi Industrial Equipment Systems Co., Ltd. (HIES) is now offering paid samples of its innovative food quality visualisation solution that utilises time-temperature sensing ink. This special ink changes colour based on elapsed time and temperature, enabling cost-effective monitoring of product quality throughout the supply chain. The solution simplifies the tracking of temperature-sensitive products without requiring power or retrieval, improving product value and reducing waste.

Temperature control within the supply chain is crucial, especially for fresh produce and perishable goods. Traditional solutions, such as temperature loggers, can often be expensive and cumbersome to use. HIES’s time-temperature sensing ink provides a practical alternative by offering clear, visual indicators of cumulative temperature over time. This innovation enhances transparency, allowing growers, wholesalers, and retailers to make better decisions regarding shipment and storage.

The solution features a label printed with time-temperature sensing ink, along with a quality visualization app. The label, which includes a two-dimensional code for tracking, is attached to the products. By scanning the label with the app, users can access accumulated temperature data, predict ripeness, and determine the optimal time for consumption.

In a demonstration involving melons, the ink’s temperature tracking matched the readings from traditional loggers, showcasing its reliability. The app successfully predicted the ripeness of the melons, enabling stakeholders to make informed decisions that help reduce waste.
