UAE’s Al Dhaid Dates Festival awards 130 winners, attracts thousands of visitors

The festival aims to inspire farmers and palm owners to adopt best practices and modern agricultural techniques, promote positive competition, and diversify local production

The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) successfully concluded the seventh edition Al Dhaid Dates Festival at Al Dhaid Expo Centre. The festival celebrated the UAE’s rich traditions and promoted local palm cultivation and date production industries. With 130 winners, the event attracted thousands of visitors over four days, a 25 per cent increase from last year’s edition. The closing ceremony was attended by Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI, members of the SCCI Board of Directors, government officials and representatives of participating agencies, who witnessed the crowning of winners from the General Elite and Al Dhaid Fort Elite Competitions. The festival also featured cultural programmes and performances by folklore bands.

During the closing ceremony, the Khalidiya Suburb Council of the Department of Suburbs and Villages Affairs organised the first charity auction in collaboration with the Organising Committee of the Al Dhaid Date Festival. Abdallah Sultan Al Owais emphasised that the festival’s success highlights SCCI’s long-term strategy and supports the UAE’s efforts to develop a productive and sustainable agricultural sector. The festival aims to inspire farmers and palm owners to adopt best practices and modern agricultural techniques, promote positive competition, and diversify local production. The National Strategy for Food Security aims to make the UAE the best in the world in the global food security index by 2051, and the Al Dhaid Date Festival is a significant step towards achieving this goal.
