New Green Giant Veggie Spirals will be packaged in new PrimaPak packaging, a hybrid technology produced by a joint venture with Sonoco Flexible Packaging.

B&G Foods, Inc. is expanding its line of Green Giant frozen veggie swap-ins with new Green Giant Veggie Spirals. The pasta alternatives initially will be available in zucchini, carrots and butternut squash varieties.

Made with 100% vegetables, the spirals are gluten-free, paleo-friendly and range from 65% to 90% fewer carbs than traditional pasta, the company said. Green Giant Veggie Spirals are expected to be in stores nationwide starting in January 2018.

New Green Giant Veggie Spirals will be packaged in new PrimaPak packaging, a hybrid technology produced by a joint venture with Sonoco Flexible Packaging.

This patented and versatile technology acts as a bowl and allows consumers to blend ingredients, conveniently heat and serve without additional dishes. The semi-rigid, rectangular container with peel and reseal functionality limits waste through the use of less plastic compared to traditional trays.

B&G Foods purchased the Green Giant brand from General Mills, Inc., for approximately $765 million in September 2015. B&G Foods unveiled its Green Giant frozen innovation products, deemed veggie swap-ins, in September 2016. The product lines included Veggie Tots, Riced Veggies, Mashed Cauliflower and Roasted Veggies. The products have driven net sales growth for Green Giant frozen products, which increased $9.4 million, or 14%, for the second quarter of 2017 as compared to the second quarter of 2016.
