This achievement highlights Saudi Arabia’s growing influence and dominance in the international date trade arena
This year has seen a significant increase in date palm cultivation in AlUla governorate, resulting in an annual production of over 90,000 tonnes. With more than 2 million date palm trees, the region has become a hub for agricultural development, led by the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU).
The RCU is dedicated to expanding the cultivation of date palms and improving their care. They have launched various initiatives to increase the number of date palm trees and enhance maintenance practices. Additionally, the RCU supports local farmers and promotes the value of dates through festivals and markets, providing opportunities for farmers to showcase and sell their products both domestically and internationally.
The Saudi leadership is committed to the development and sustainability of the date palm industry across all regions, aiming to make Saudi dates the preferred choice globally. Saudi Arabia has secured the top spot in the world for the value of date exports in 2021, as reported by Trade Map, a website of the International Trade Centre. This achievement highlights the country’s growing influence and dominance in the international date trade arena.
