Nestlé Germany has decided to relocate product manufacturing within Germany and to other European countries
After an intensive review, it was decided to begin planning for the closure of the Neuss plant in mid-2026. The plant currently employs approximately 145 people, producing products such as Thomy oil, mayonnaise, and mustard in glass, plastic bottles, and tubes.
The reasons for this change include increasing price sensitivity among consumers and rising costs, which have led to declining volumes and overcapacity at the Neuss site in recent years. For these reasons, Nestlé Germany has decided to relocate product manufacturing within Germany and to other European countries. An external production solution is being sought for the bottling of its oil product. Glass and plastic bottle production is to be relocated to other European countries. A transfer to the Lüdinghausen site is planned for the production of mustard and mayonnaise tubes.
By relocating the largest share of tube production (approximately 90 per cent) to the Lüdinghausen plant, 30 additional jobs will be created, which will be offered to employees from Neuss. Nestlé is also investing approximately €13 million in modernising the site and in a new production line. The goal is to increase the competitiveness of the food plants in Germany and leverage synergies in the European environment. Nestlé intends to continue producing around 80 per cent of Thomy products at its German sites in the future.
