The sale price for the acquisition is EUR 7 million
Valio has acquired the plant protein business of Raisio plc, along with the associated fixed assets and the Härkis and Beanit fava bean brands. The fixed assets include the production equipment from the plant in Kauhava that manufactures plant protein products. As part of this acquisition, 16 employees will move to Valio. The sale price for the acquisition is EUR 7 million.
“The future food system will encompass both plant-based and animal-based foods, as well as products produced through cellular agriculture. All of these are essential to provide sufficient food for a growing global population. This principle underpins Valio’s strategy of evolving from a dairy company into a broader food company. This acquisition marks another step in our growth journey. For 120 years, a strong and innovative product selection has been the foundation of Valio. In addition to our traditional milk-based products, we are now investing in the development of foods using diverse raw materials,” says Tuomas Salusjärvi, Valio’s Executive Vice President.
“This acquisition will further enhance our role as a significant developer and producer of plant-based protein products. The demand for these products is expected to rise in the long term, with substantial growth potential ahead. In 2022, we acquired the Gold&Green business, and since then, we have been actively engaged in product development and brand renewal. Following successful product launches, our sales in the last quarter of 2024 increased by approximately 50 per cent compared to the previous quarter. With this acquisition, we are also expanding our production capacity. The equipment from the Kauhava factory aligns perfectly with our needs,” states Kimmo Luoma, Valio’s Senior Vice President.
