The strawberry contamination scare in Australia has caused recall of the fruit of major brands from the supermarket.
The Queensland Health Department has issued a health alert after several cases of presence of the needle in strawberries were found in various parts of the country. Needles or pins in strawberries have been reported in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT.
Affected brands include Berry Obsession, Berry Licious, Love Berry, Donnybrook Berries, Delightful Strawberries and Oasis.
A nationwide manhunt is under way for the culprit or culprits responsible for the numerous cases of deliberate contamination.
Consumers are urged to cut up any strawberries before eating them.
“Whoever is behind this is not just putting families at risk across Queensland and the rest of Australia — they are putting an entire industry at risk,” Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said in a statement.
Queensland Police have launched an investigation and has offered $100,000 Australian dollars to anyone with information that leads to the arrest of the person responsible for the strawberry contamination.
