Portalis Capital Investments LLC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kingdom’s National Livestock and Fisheries Development Program (NLFDP), Tanmiah Food Company, and Dutch biotechnology firm Micreos Food Safety B.V. (Phageguard) to introduce advanced bacteriophage technology aimed at improving Salmonella safety in Saudi Arabia’s poultry sector.

The agreement was formalised during GreenTech Amsterdam at the RAI Convention Centre, one of the world’s leading forums for agricultural innovation.

This first-of-its-kind public-private partnership supports Saudi Vision 2030 by strengthening food security, improving public health, and promoting environmental sustainability. Backed by NLFDP, the collaboration will streamline regulatory approvals, encourage technology transfer, and accelerate private-sector adoption of bacteriophage solutions.

Under the agreement, Tanmiah Food Company will lead pilot testing of Phageguard S in the Kingdom, with NLFDP’s support. If successful, the initiative could pave the way for a long-term offtake arrangement, while creating local jobs and fostering knowledge-sharing in sustainable food safety technologies.

Dr Sulaiman M. Alajel, General Supervisor of the Biotechnology Sector at NLFDP, said:
“This partnership is a bold step toward a healthier, technology-driven future for Saudi Arabia. By embracing phage technology, we are not only adopting best practices—we are helping to define them. This collaboration reinforces our mission to empower the private sector and combat antimicrobial resistance.”

Marcos Delorenzo, CEO of Agriculture Development Company (ADC), Tanmiah’s Fresh Poultry division, added:
“Food quality and safety are always our top priorities. This initiative strengthens our ability to raise standards further and ensures food security through sustainable, multiparty collaboration, in full alignment with Vision 2030.”
