Sidel Group has showcased its new high-performance weight-based filler for edible oil at CibusTec 2026 in Parma, Italy. Designed to improve filling accuracy, operational efficiency and flexibility, the new technology aims to help edible oil producers and bottlers minimise product waste while optimising packaging line performance.

The filler is engineered to deliver precise weight-based filling, addressing the need for accuracy and consistency in an increasingly competitive edible oil market. According to Sidel, the technology eliminates underfilling and overfilling while reducing product losses during initial bottle measurements.

“With our new filler, we meet the needs of edible oil producers and bottlers to provide highly accurate filling, ease and efficiency, and minimal energy consumption,” said Davide Sighinolfi, Vice-President for Food, Home and Personal Care at Sidel.

The machine incorporates several technologies to improve filling precision. These include brushless motors that minimise vibrations, an optimised filling process that utilises the available production time to maintain optimal filling speeds, and automated ‘in-flight oil’ measurements.

The in-flight measurement technology calculates the quantity of oil remaining between the filling valve and the container when the valve closes, enabling the system to adjust filling parameters accordingly.

Together, these features deliver a filling accuracy of within 0.5g per kilogram of oil, with a standard deviation of just 0.8g.

Beyond filling precision, the new equipment is designed to improve operational efficiency, flexibility and maintenance. Each component is controlled by an individual servo motor, supporting predictive maintenance and simplified machine operations.

The filler can handle container formats ranging from 0.5 to 5 litres and supports multiple packaging materials, including PET, glass, cans and high-density polyethylene (HDPE), on the same machine. It also enables immediate, tool-free format changeovers, reducing downtime during production transitions.

Energy efficiency is another focus of the technology. Its high-efficiency brushless motors reduce electricity consumption compared with traditional alternatives, while integrated consumption monitoring helps producers track energy use and make informed operational decisions in line with predefined targets.

The new filler expands Sidel's broader portfolio of solutions for the food industry, which includes packaging expertise, production line design and integration, complete equipment solutions and lifecycle services.

“Edible oil is a key market for Sidel, and this new filler is an important step in strengthening our Food portfolio, bringing together filling precision, flexibility and efficiency to deliver tangible value to our customers’ packaging lines,” said Sébastien Sergues, Director of Portfolio for Food, Home, Personal Care and Wine and Spirits Solutions at Sidel.
